Hayward mother creates DVD to help those raising blind children
By Kristofer Noceda © Oakland Tribune, California — Fear. It was something Graciela Tiscareno-Sato initially felt when her oldest child was born premature, weighing 1 pound, 2 ounces. The feeling grew even stronger when Milagro — Spanish for “miracle” — developed a vision impairment and lost her ability to see at 2 months old. “Grief of the loss of her potential was primary on our minds, followed by despair and fear,” Tiscareno-Sato said. She began to take control of her fear by learning about and meeting blind adults. In turn, she was able to stop being afraid for and overprotective of her daughter.
